Meditation

3-Minute Breathing Space – a short practice for you to enjoy

Have a look at the following ~ if you answer yes to one or more, chances are they will be a good fit:

  • I’ve tried meditation before, but there were long periods of silence and I didn’t know if I was doing it right. I need more guidance / instruction.
  • I’ve used apps before, however I feel I could benefit from learning from a teacher / support of a group.
  • I know how to meditate and my practice is fairly regular, but I know being part of a regular group will support me.
  • I understand that meditation can be a positive practice and I’m willing to give it a try, as I could do with something like this in my life.
  • I want to understand more from the philosophy / background to meditation.

Meditation is not a one-size-fits-all. Some prefer silent sitting, where others will find this incredibly challenging. My approach is very eclectic given that I have studied / trained across many traditions. Generally classes have their foundation in Buddhism ~ this does not mean you will be studying Buddhism per se, nor will it mean you become a Buddhist. Rather, it offers the foundation of my approach to teaching, which centres primarily on Calm Abiding (sanskrit: Shamatha / Tibetan: shinay). There is also a focus on Lojong (mind training) utilising 59 slogans which are ways of helping us focus our mind.

You will not be required to sit in lotus (!) but…you will need to ensure you are sitting comfortably and well supported, whether that is on a chair or the floor. In addition, many of our practices can also be done lying down (how cool is that?!)

There are two sessions per month: one lasting 90 minutes which will provide guidance and study and another lasting 30 minutes for sitting practice only (also an opportunity to create more of a regular practice).

Please note: sessions are not always recorded, however meditation audios will be made available time-to-time to support home practice.
